I want to thank my mom because of how much she has sacrificed to ensure that I could achieve the best life possible. After leaving my dad when I was 10, my mom put her personal life on hold to provide for my sister and myself. While many other parents would have started dating in order to cope with a divorce, my mom knew that she would rather put all of her focus into taking care of me and my sister. Shortly after this, she lost her job which put an enormous strain on our family. Knowing the level of stress that we were all under, my mom decided to withdraw money from her retirement plan to take us on a family vacation. Even though this meant having less for her own future, she placed more weight on the benefit of spending time with her children. My sister was too young to truly understand the hardship my mom was facing, but I was aware of how many nights she would stay up late budgeting and planning for our futures, and how many nights she went to bed crying out of frustration for our current situation. My mom has always shown incredible resilience in the face of adversity, especially when it comes to supporting her kids. The love, nurture, and support she has consistently shown me and my sister are but a few of the reasons why I would love the opportunity to pay her back, though I know I can never truly repay her for giving us the ability to grow up having successful futures ahead of us.
