Princess Marcelino

I can never speak about my parents without a full heart and a teary eye from all of the sacrifices they have endured to get to where I am today. Mom and Dad, to make you proud is the greatest goal I hope to achieve.

My parents went through numerous loopholes of applications in different agencies in the third world country of the Philippines to go to the land of the land of milk and honey- Canada. Despite being scammed heaps of money by a couple of recruiters, they pushed through with their application and passed the meticulous medical testings, interviews and saved enough money to get to a plane headed to Canada in hopes of a better future. Without being familiar with the language or the culture of the foreign land, we stepped into a new country filled with dreams of new opportunities. Both my parents had a masters degree in Education that was not recognized in Canada. Therefore, in a blink of an eye, they turned from respectable teachers to a steelworker and a nanny for disabled people. They were treated unfairly and looked down upon as inferiors by their coworkers in their workplace because they did not speak the language. However, no matter how hard the work is and how homesick they are upon leaving everything they were used to and comfortable with, Mom and Dad set aside all of this oppression in order to provide for us. I have never met anyone as strong and selfless as my parents and I am beyond thankful for the both of them. It is true that you don’t choose your family members but I am more than lucky to have the most loving and compassionate parents. They truly are the greatest blessing I have ever received in this lifetime.

Mom and Dad, just hold on until I finish my degree and I will be the one to finally take care of you both. You don't have to work a single hour producing steel pipes or cleaning up after others anymore. As written in the Scripture in Romans 8:18 "The pain that you've been feeling cannot compare to the joy that is coming." May the Lord bless you both exceedingly and abundantly. I love you with all my heart.
