I want to thank my mom and dad because their compassion for people has inspired my pursuit of my doctorate and clinical psychologist training so that I can treat mental illness and addiction. Like many parents, my Mom and Dad have been in my corner and worked hard to support me to achieve my academic goals. What makes them special is how hard they work to learn about my chosen field, reading many papers including mine, to gain insight into my learning and development challenges. They are truly able to understand and support me through the highs and lows of my journey. The 12 years of training to become a clinical psychologist is an endurance test- and very difficult financially. My Mom has a chronic painful disease and she has chosen not to complain but to focus on the blessings in her life and she inspires me to do the same. My Dad, who is actually my Step-Dad has been steadfast in his belief that I can conquer the challenges I face and has been a source of incredible strength. My parents are the kind of people who give this same love to my friends, and who have taught me to be a source of encouragement and support for my fellow students as they strive to achieve success. I am truly blessed.
