I want to thank my mom and dad because... they sacrificed their family, friends and even their culture. My mother was a secretary at an elementary school. My father owned two bussinesses and we had a beautiful home. Unfortunately we faced many threats and life was more of a game of luck because we never knew who would be murdered or robbed next. They loved me and my sisters so much that when I was the age of 4 my parents brought us to Canada from Guatemala so that we could have a better future. My dad worked 4 jobs at one point so that I could be nourished and healthy. My mom stayed at home with me and my four sisters so that we would always have someone to take care of us. They came here not speaking any english, not knowing anybody here and not even having a job. They did it because they wanted me to grow up in a safe environement and get an education to have a better life. Without them I would be living in Guatemala playing a game of survival. We may not be the richest family but if it weren't for my parents I would not be pursuing a career in nursing. I would not be in Canada. I would maybe not even be alive. So I would like to thank my mom and dad for giving me the life I have now. I owe you everything and more. I love you both so much. Thank you.
