I want to thank my mom and dad because they pushed me towards where I am today in my career and love for music, and the arts in general. My mother taught me piano lessons since I was 4 years old. I continued to take lessons with her throughout elementary school and middle school. When I was in Grade 7 or so, I was very frustrated with my progress and wanted to quit lessons. I would be frustrated to the point of tears, because learning some pieces tested my patience and resilience. I am thankful that my parents taught me how to persevere through hardships and continue with my lessons, allowing me to make a decision as to whether I would like to stay in music lessons later down the line when I was older and thought more about the benefits of staying in music. Not only did my mother teach me piano and my parents pushed me to stay in music, but they put me through private piano and music theory lessons later on in my education and provided financial and emotional support throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. I was able to complete my Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music piano performance exam, and undergraduate studies at university in music history, music production, and business management, as well as graduate studies in arts administration in college. If it weren't for them, I would not have gotten into university for a music program, nor would I have continued into my arts management career. I currently work in arts festival and education program management, and if it weren't for my parents pushing me to continue my studies in music, I would not be where I am today. Thank you Mom and Dad. Love, Janita
